How to Make the Most Out of Business Travel

Working on the road can be tough. You feel pressure to represent your company, so it can be difficult to let your hair down. Jet lag can make it difficult to want to do anything other than sleep and you’ll probably also be touching base with your family and colleagues during your down time. Then as you depart whatever exciting land you’ve just “seen,” there’s that all too familiar tinge of regret as you buy your sad little magnet from an airport gift shop.

Everyone’s situation is different, but as someone who travels for work frequently, I’ve picked up a few tricks that might help you milk the company’s dime.

#TwitterChat on Social Media Influencers with Canon and FotoCare #TravelWomen

TheTravelWomen kicked off our first Twitter Chat today partnered with Canon and FotoCare talking about social media influencers. @UrbanAdventures and @Nicolette_O cohosted with us and we had amazing women tweeting from NYC to Austin to a cruise ship! In many ways anyone who has a social media account can be an influencer, but we all concluded that it is not just about the number of followers, you must be an authentic and trusted voice that adds value.

Lessons from Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Summiting Mount Kilimanjaro had always been a dream of mine – a dream that I was never sure would come true. My memories of trekking have always been mixed. I love the outdoors, but I often have trouble with altitude sickness and my asthma makes breathing above the clouds difficult. I remember having to descend one hike at 10,000 feet in Yosemite because my lungs were burning. Another time I suffered extreme nausea on the Inca Trail at 12,000 feet. Mount Kilimanjaro is a staggering 19,341 feet! I wasn’t sure how I was going to reach the top of one of the highest mountains in the world, but I knew I had to try.
