Suze of Luxury Columnist shares her favorite travel spots and souvenirs!

1. Why do you travel?
I travel to learn about other cultures, see architectural treasures, try new foods and meet people from different backgrounds.

2. What do you think of when you think of a woman traveler?
It’s hard to generalize but I’d hope that most women are responsible travelers who aim to minimize their impact on the destination. Many women are solo travelers so I mention in my reviews if I’ve found a place that’s particularly welcoming. Similarly, I try to feature family-friendly hotels and restaurants when I can.

3. What was your favorite travel experience?
There are a few, but seeing animals like elephants in the wild in Tanzania was amazing. One elephant came right into our camp as they apparently like eating the leaves on trees in that area. We got a surprise when we saw it a few meters from us!

4. Which place(s) do you want to go next, why?
I’d love to visit Cuba while it retains its unique atmosphere and Costa Rica is also high on my list for the wildlife and ziplining. Sri Lanka is another country that I’ve heard great things about, for its luxury hotels, great food and friendly people.

5. When did you start traveling?
I started travelling with my parents when I was a child. We went to Brittany and Normandy in France and hearing other languages around me really motivated me to learn more languages. Years later I moved there and visited some of the countries that are particularly popular with French travelers such as Guadeloupe and Mauritius. Now that I’m living in London it’s easy to reach virtually every destination and I make the most of that.

6. Who do you prefer traveling with?
I like travelling with close friends or my husband although recently I’ve done 3 solo work trips and enjoyed those too.

7. Why do you enjoy documenting your travels on your site, Luxury Columnist?
There are so many unique places in the world and with my photography and writing I hope to capture that and share with others. I like seeking out hidden gems, unique experiences and all things colorful.

8. What is your favorite souvenir?
I tend to bring back things that will be useful in everyday life such as decorative props for photos. Having said that, my last souvenir I bought in Zurich was a bit quirky – a dirndl! It’s a traditional dress that I’ve already worn since on an Austrian trip.
