It can be controlled 3 ways, by controller, phone and by gestures.
-
The new controller does not have an LCD screen and cannot fit an iPad like the Mavic Pro controller can. You will need an attachment. The sport mode button has also been moved to a more central location on the controller allowing you to go much faster.
-
To connect your phone to control it, the password is hidden under the battery.
-
For gesture mode: 3D Vision Technology senses your face and then uses this to move with the movement of your hand gestures, the lights will flash green when it reads the movement and is under your gesture controls, the frame gesture initiates a 3 second timer.
-
There’s even a TapFly mode where you can click the screen to indicate which direction you want to fly the drone. This is not the best mode but is easily accessible for beginner flyers.
-
You can charge the drone directly through a Micro USB to a portable battery, but you will need to wait about an hour for it to charge so extra batteries are recommended!
-
It falls in the category of “Selfie drones” because hand gestures make it easier than ever to snap a shot of yourself or a group!
-
Palm takeoff and palm landing are a great feature for travelers who might be on a boat or more difficult landing area.
-
There is a shallow depth of field option which is great for portraits. The Spark’s software simulates the blurred background of a wide aperture to achieve this.
-
New one-touch flight modes will provide really cool video angles, most notably the rocket shot (which flies up while shooting the camera down) and the “Helix” (which will send the drone flying upward spiraling around your subject giving a parallax like shot with one click)! There is still no object detection on the back of the drone which could be an issue with these two modes if there are any trees nearby.
-
DJI Spark does not capture details or low light as well as the DJI Mavic.
-
The DJI Spark has a mechanical 2-axis stabilized gimbal camera. What does that mean? Is the 3-axis gimbal of the Mavic better because 3 is bigger than 2? Technically yes, a 2 axis gimbal is more likely to show a shaky horizon in videos but if you’re just looking for photos, 2 vs 3 axis does not make a difference and the stabilization corrects most of this shake.
