St. Lucia’s all-inclusive resorts are hard to leave, but to get a feel for the local culture and see the top spots we chose Real St. Lucia Tours to show us around. After hours of researching the available tours this company was the highest rated and offered the best tour of the entire island at our own pace. They also emailed back immediately, faster than any other tour company and were very attentive to helping us book the perfect tour and timing for us. Here are the top 5 things we saw on our own custom itinerary, which fit comfortably in a day from 8:30am – 2pm.
1. Tet Paul Nature Trail: If you don’t feel like hiking for hours up the Pitons, this new nature trail is the best option. This leisurely stroll takes about 45 minutes round-trip. Along the trail our local guide shared indigenous plant and animal information. We even saw the many stages of pineapples growing. The stairway to heaven provides an awesome view of both Pitons on either side of you for amazing photo opportunities.
2. Sulphur Springs Park: This is the “Caribbean’s only drive in volcano” where you can bath in mud and see the hottest most active geothermal area in the Lesser Antilles area.
3. Take the pink tuk tuk to Viceroy’s Sugar Beach: A fun excursion that not many people know about is on a cute pink tuk tuk to Sugar Beach. If you’re not staying at the Viceroy just let them know you’re going to the bar for drinks and you will gain access to this pristine white sand beach nestled right between the two Pitons.
4. Have a Piton beer: This light local drink is must. Named after the two Pitons or mountain-like volcanic spires, Piton beer is the perfect way to stay refreshed on a warm day.
5. Toraille Waterfall: The Toraille Waterful is a tall waterfall flowing into a cold natural pool. There is even an adorable treehouse perfect for photos a few steps away.
